How to get a US stripe account for a Shopify account
So, do you create a US Stripe account?
To create a verified US Stripe account for your e-commerce business, specific criteria must be fulfilled:
- US incorporation and possessing a valid physical US address are prerequisites.
- A verifiable Employer Identification Number (EIN) or Social Security Number (SSN) and a US phone number are mandatory.
- Possessing a government ID from any country is of utmost importance.
To create a Stripe account:
- Visit stripe.com and click the “Create Account” button.
- Follow the prompts to provide your email address full name, and create a password.
- Choose the country where you will conduct business and click “Create Account” to proceed.
Once your account is created, verify your email address and click “Activate Payments” to activate the payment feature.
If you are 18 or older, you can sign up for a standard Stripe account. However, if you are under 18, a legal guardian must consent for Stripe to transfer funds to your bank account.
To get started, we have to head over to the official stripe website stripe and click on sign up; create a new account if you’ve never signed up on the site.
1. Getting USA Bank Account
Have you ever heard of Wise Account, formerly Transferwise? I have used Wise for years to obtain payment from freelancing sites like Upwork and send money from a Stripe account to my virtual US bank account on the Wise platform.
The payment services allow you to receive and send money to anyone worldwide and offer you a virtual USA bank account. That would be our first step to getting your US Stripe account for the Shopify store.
With Wise Services, getting a US bank account is straightforward; register on their portal, and you are ready. Wise also mails you Mastercard sent straight to your doorstep.
The card can be used to pay for goods, withdraw and shop online, but you don’t have to wait for the card to arrive to start using Wise services.
The Wise MasterCard can take 30-45 days to reach your destination, or you can use their DHL premium services, and the card will take 3-5 days for a small fee.
To get the Mastercard, you must be in one of the countries listed on Wise for card availability.
Now that you’ve registered for Wise and have a USA bank account, you can start accepting payments from the Stripe account immediately.

2. Your EIN/SSN
Now that you are sorted with a US Virtual Bank account by Wise, it’s time to sort out the elephant in the room.
Social Security Number (SSN) is a unique number associated with US citizens only. By assumption, I believe you are not a US citizen, thus why you are reading this.
But anyway, one vital thing you should be aware of is that getting one is no joke; many close their Shopify shops due to a lack of SSN.
So can one get an SSN? The alternative to SSN is EIN, an Employer Identification Number that goes by Federal Tax Identification Number; EIN is used widely to identify a business entity.
Now it’s time you dial some numbers and call the IRS to get your EIN. To get the EIN, you’ll need to call the Internal Revenue Services and ensure you have;
- Downloaded the form and fill it out before you made the call
- Call the Internal Revenue Service via (800) 829-4933); the agenda of calling is to get an EIN. you must send the form you downloaded by fax but have the form at hand answer the fields you already filled.
If you don’t have a fax Machine, the operator will ask you to do it by phone; ensure the following.
- You must have the form on hand and dictate the fields the operator asks.
- In less than 10 minutes, you will have your EIN, the same, sent via your mail to your country of origin.
3. Setting Up Stripe Account
Now that you have your EIN log into your storage account, switch the account mode from LIve/Test to LIve, and activate your stripe account.
Still, you must verify your mobile phone number on the stripe. Hence they send a text code verification to your us number.
Phone verification is required to activate your account for withdrawals fully.
The next step, would be to fill in your stripe account for your Shopify store, making sure you fill in the exact information you have.
Country: United States.
Business Type: Individual or sole proprietorship
EIN: Enter the number IRS gave you
Address: Enter any mail forwarding US (PO BOX format)
Phone number: Use Skype Numbers and avoid free US number services. They will detect it and deactivate your account.
SSN: Enter 0000
US Bank Account: Log into your Wise account and check under Manage. Then, account details take all the US Balance bank details on that tab, including bank name, account number, routing, and account type, and fill it in in your stripe account for the Shopify store.

Are we done? Nope! You need a few vital things for smooth operation.
For your US stripe account to be active, you must at least get money within 7 days of opening it. This will help you not have any future issues with your Stripe account.
After receiving the payment in your account, you must change the setting in your payouts to manual.
After all that is done, in case you experience delays in your payment, you can call stripe more custom care at your US Skype number and inquire about the delayed payments.
Customer support will ask you for your current location and alert them that you are not in the US now, but your details are valid and legit.
Regarding your details, kindly maintain the Skype number for at least 60 days or 30 days.
